It’s thrilling living in a major city, but all metropolitans need somewhere peaceful to retreat to at the end of a hectic day. Located in the City of London’s Square Mile, with views of the landmark Shard skyscraper through the floor-to-ceiling windows, this sleek modern apartment provides its busy owners with just that: a peaceful place to work, rest and play.

Besides the unbeatable views, the star attraction of this apartment is the master suite with an attached office, both of which overlook a tranquil internal courtyard garden that connects this inner-city dwelling to the healing powers of the natural world. A selection of leafy green houseplants is then cleverly positioned to blur the divide between inside and out.

While these two connected-yet-distinct spaces have very different practical purposes – sleep and work – both have been given a sense of cohesion through the consistent use of an organic colour palette of cream and beige tones that’s punctuated with elements of dark wood and highlights of brushed brass. Clean-lined and coordinated furniture pieces (many from the KENT family of designs) featuring interesting and unexpected textures such as fretwork and leather are then used to add layers of interest to this classic backdrop, while ample storage maintains visual order.

But what we really love is the way that a note of chic pattern has been introduced via the rectangular MALAGA rug, which is used on repeat, while the more relaxed vibe of the sleep zone is emphasised through the use of a bold fabric across cushions, bedding and a NEW CASTLE stool – all elements that can be easily switched up to create a different vibe should the mood strike.
