At FRATO, we believe that good design has the power to enhance wellbeing – and nowhere is this more important than in the bedroom, the space where you go to rest and decompress. To inspire you, we’re visiting a modern villa in the Ekali suburb of northern Athens and revealing the secrets behind this stylish sleep sanctuary.
The first thing you’ll notice is the self-assured layout, which places our cube-shaped ANTIBES bed at the centre of the space. A modern interpretation of a classic four-poster, the design’s positioning hints at a secluded room within the larger room. This creates a sense of comfort and privacy, while directing sightlines from the bed towards the floor-to-ceiling windows and the verdant gardens beyond. Surrounding the bed and facilitating its inhabitants are matching drum-shaped BARI side tables and a MADISON bench, which resembles a petite daybed and invites further soporific lounging.
This floorplan also has the benefit of concealing the dressing area from view, behind the ANTIBES bed’s headboard, which consists of four upholstered panels edged in brushed brass. A simple set-up, it pairs the twin-drawer MANDALAY dresser, a contemporary design with timeless appeal, with an AMALFI mirror and MONACO dining chair, two designs that celebrate soft curves and circles. Completing the room’s layout, our loveseat-style KANSAS sofa and elegant PRAGUE side table occupy a quiet corner, providing an alternative relaxation spot that’s perfectly suited to moments of solitude.
And while the room’s palette favours a restful blend of beige hues, mid-toned woods and brushed brass that feels elevated yet easy on the eye, it also allows for moments of dynamic decor. These include illustrative, nature-inspired artworks and bed linens that reflect the architectural foliage growing outside, plus a bold, graphic BOLIVAR rug that adds vibrancy to the neutral scheme. This duality creates an invigorating, light-filled room in which to wake and get ready for the day, and a calming sleep space to retreat to come night fall, offering the best of both worlds.
